Our Roots in the Uruguayan Countryside
We were just six years old when our routine began long before sunrise in the peaceful but demanding fields of Río Negro, Uruguay. Every morning at 6 a.m. we would wake up in the dark, wrap ourselves in our ponchos to protect against the cold morning air, saddle our horses, and ride 9 miles round trip every day to the rural school and back home. That journey was long and tiring for two young boys, crossing dirt roads, fields, and streams as the sun slowly rose on the horizon.
The Birth of Our "Bronca"
At school, we shared wooden benches with other children from the countryside. Many arrived with empty stomachs, and for most of them, the only real meal of the day was the modest food provided by the school. We saw their tired faces, their worn clothes, and the daily struggles of their families. Their well-being was often difficult, and that reality left a deep and lasting mark on us. From childhood, we carried a “bronca”—that mix of frustration and determination—that never left us, fueling a strong desire to one day help change that situation.
From Those Dirt Roads to BRONCA
Years passed, but the memory of that rural life never faded. As adults, we decided to transform that childhood experience into something real and positive. That’s how BRONCA was born. We created the brand to honor our rural Uruguayan roots and bring them into the present. Our products—authentic alpargatas, traditional ponchos, boinas, and more—are inspired directly by the clothing that accompanied us during those hard but beautiful years, combining the soul of the countryside with a modern, urban touch.
